Traffic Academy's Background


Matjhabeng Traffic Training Academy was approved by the then Minister of Transport, the honorable Mr. Jeff Radebe through Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) in 2007, after the former Welkom Traffic Training College was stopped in 1998 to offer Basic Traffic Diploma Course. The first intake of fifteen learners was in July 2007 during Traffic Officer Course two (2) of 2007 and all this learners were employees of Matjhabeng Municipality. Traffic Officer Course one of 2008 started in January 2008 with seventeen learners of which eleven were repeating the course and they belong to Matjhabeng Municipality, others were from the following municipalities; Moqhaka, Tswelopele and Thabazimbi.

During September 2008 two facilitators send to Ga-Segonyana Municipality to train nine learners as Traffic Wardens. The college had intake of thirty one learners in Traffic Officer Course one of 2009 that started on the 5th of January 2009. They were from the following municipalities; Kgetlengriver, Ga-Segonyana, Mafube, Nketoane, Thabazimbi, Moqhaka and Tswelopele Municipality. Three percents, ninety nine percents and hundred percents pass rates were achieved in those terms respectively.

The new Intake Traffic officer Course

The College is enrolling only people who are employed by either Municipality (Local Authority) or Province; therefore this Invitation is directed to all Traffic Departments within the Local Authorities and Provincial Authorities to enroll Traffic Trainees / Students at Matjhabeng Traffic Training Academy accreditation number 111999691940. Matjhabeng Traffic Training Academy provides all Traffic and related occupations with knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to deliver a professional service, by ensuring a safe and comfortable road environment.

It is important to note that this is the last intake of Traffic Learners on one year Qualification for Traffic officers on NQF level 4. The extension period to present this qualification for one year is received although the Traffic Officer qualification as from January 2027 is going to be for the duration of three (3) years and is called Occupational qualification for Traffic Officers on NQF level 6. The I.D code for this qualification is 97639 with 406 minimum credits.

The Traffic Officer Course called: Further Education and Training (FET) Certificate: Road Traffic Law Enforcement (ID 62289) is offered for twelve (12) months.

The registrations have started on the 2nd of May 2025, and the closing date is the 27th of June 2025. The classes for the new intake will start on the 1st of July 2025.

What you need to Register

Entry requirements are as follows:


  • Original Copy of Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Certified Original Copy of a valid Drivers License at least Code: B.
  • Proof of SAPS clearance.
  • Medical Examination proof.
  • Certified Copy of ID (age limit is under 35 years of age)
  • Covering Letter and proof of appointment from the Institution that sends a learner.
  • Application form of the College.
  • Proof of payment of tuition fee.

It is critical to note that only people between eighteen (18) years and thirty five (35) years of age will be accepted.
