Overseeing critical service delivery operations

Today, the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Special Programs, Cllr. Thandi Monjovo-Xaba, has been delegated by Executive Mayor Thanduxolo Khalipha to act as the MMC Infrastructure.
MMC Thandi is on the ground, overseeing critical service delivery operations currently underway in Ward 30, Thabong, engaging directly with municipal teams to monitor progress and ensure the effective delivery of services. Several departments are actively deployed in the area.

The Electrical Department, Road Maintenance, Water Demand, and Sewer Services teams are all working on site to address service-related challenges and improve infrastructure.
These coordinated interventions reflect the municipality’s commitment to responsive governance, infrastructure development, and the overall well-being of the community.
Residents are encouraged to cooperate with municipal teams on site and to report any service-related issues through the appropriate municipal platforms. Together, we can build a cleaner, safer, and better Matjhabeng.

Electricity Department is currently deployed in Ward 30

The Matjhabeng Local Municipality’s Electricity Department is currently deployed in Ward 30, conducting essential maintenance and repairs on high mast lighting infrastructure.
This intervention forms part of our ongoing commitment to improve public lighting, enhance safety, and ensure well-lit public spaces for all residents....

We urge the community to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities around municipal infrastructure.
A significant challenge we continue to face is the vandalism and theft of components from high mast lights, which not only disrupts service delivery but also puts communities at risk by leaving areas in darkness.
Residents are encouraged to report vandalism or theft to the municipal call centre or local law enforcement agencies.

Sewer Maintenance Team was hard at work

The Matjhabeng Local Municipality's Sewer Maintenance Team was hard at work from Saturday night in Virginia X5, attending to a series of sewer blockages that have been disrupting normal flow in the area.
Upon inspection, the team discovered that the primary cause of the blockages was the presence of foreign materials, particularly stones and aggregate that had been improperly disposed of into the sewer system.

These types of materials are not meant for sewer lines and cause severe damage to the infrastructure. They reduce the system’s efficiency, lead to repeated blockages, and pose a health risk to the community due to potential sewage overflows....

We urge all residents to work with us in protecting our sewer infrastructure. Please avoid disposing of the following items into toilets or manholes:
* Stones, gravel, or construction debris
*Sanitary pads, nappies, and wipes
*Plastic bags and wrappers
*Cooking oil and food waste

Foreign objects in the sewer system not only disrupt services but also increase maintenance costs that could otherwise be used to improve service delivery in other areas.
The Municipality commends the swift response by the sewer team and will continue to monitor the area to ensure stability and prevent future blockages.

accelerate service delivery by identifying and prioritising critical areas for improvement

In the latest sitting of the Mayoral Committee (Mayco), Executive Mayor Thanduxolo Khalipha underscored the pressing need to accelerate service delivery by identifying and prioritising critical areas for improvement.
Among the key concerns raised was the safety risk posed by non-functioning streetlights and high-mast lights across the municipality.

In response, Mayco approved a ward-based service delivery programme aimed at tackling these challenges head-on — including pothole repairs, refuse removal, the clearing of illegal dumping sites, sewer spillages, grass cutting, and other essential service delivery issues. ...

As part of this rollout, the Municipality's Electrical Teams have been deployed across various areas in Matjhabeng to repair faulty lighting infrastructure and enhance community safety.
Today, our teams are on the ground in Stateway, working to restore street lighting.
