The Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng, Cllr. Thanduxolo Khalipha, recently led a community engagement session in Ward 26 as
part of the ongoing Mayoral Imbizo programme.
The session focused on progress regarding the Ministerial Intervention aimed at resolving operational challenges, as
well as upcoming investment projects set to launch in Matjhabeng. These initiatives carry the potential to create over
2,000 jobs and unlock further economic opportunities for local SMMEs.
Residents were given a platform to engage directly with the Executive Mayor and Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs),
raising issues and concerns affecting their communities.
The Executive Mayor was accompanied by MMC Tlake Khoarai, MMC Jaja Radebe, Ward Councillor Mosia, and Ward 26 Councillor
Mokhothu.
Today, a team from the Executive Mayor’s office is on the ground, actively attending to concerns raised by residents
during the Imbizo.

The Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Cllr. Thanduxolo Khalipha, will today deliver a heartfelt message
of condolences to the Madalane family and the Virginia High School community following the tragic passing of their
beloved son, Sonwabile Madalane.
Sonwabile was not only a dedicated learner and student leader, but he also served with distinction as the Junior Mayor
of the Matjhabeng Junior Council.
He was more than a pupil, but a beacon of hope, a shining example of what the future of our municipality could be.
His unwavering commitment to service, his compassion for others, and his sense of responsibility reflected a maturity
and purpose well beyond his years.
We are not only mourning the loss of a young life, but also the bright future he represented, a leader in the making,
whose legacy will remain etched in the hearts of those he served and inspired.
The Executive Mayor joins the community in paying tribute to Sonwabile’s life and extends sincere sympathies to all who
are grieving this profound loss.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.

R4 to R7 Billion Solar Energy Investment Headed to Matjhabeng!
The Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Cllr. Thanduxolo Khalipha, together with senior members of the
municipal administration, proudly welcomed representatives from Mulilo Energy Holdings during a high-level strategic
engagement held this week.
Mulilo Energy Holdings has unveiled plans to invest between R4 billion and R7 billion in the development of renewable
energy infrastructure in Matjhabeng , a transformative initiative poised to reposition the municipality as a key player
in South Africa’s green energy sector....
The investment includes the development of:
* Two (2) Solar Energy Facilities
* Two (2) Battery Energy Storage Systems
The first of these four projects to be implemented is the Middlepunt Solar PV Plant.
Collectively, the projects are expected to generate no fewer than 2,000 job opportunities for local residents during the
construction phases — providing a substantial economic boost and contributing to much-needed employment in the region.
In his remarks, the Executive Mayor reaffirmed the Municipality’s steadfast commitment to attracting impactful and
sustainable investments.
“We welcome initiatives that stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and enhance energy security for our communities.
Matjhabeng is open for business,” said Executive Mayor Khalipha.
As part of the implementation process, the Municipality will soon initiate public participation sessions to ensure that
local stakeholders are consulted and actively involved.
This significant investment announcement also sets the stage for the upcoming Matjhabeng Investment Summit, taking place
on 14–15 August 2025 , a flagship event aimed at showcasing investment opportunities and forging strategic partnerships
to unlock the municipality’s economic potential.

The MMC for Human Settlement and Spatial Planning , Cllr Matinte Radebe together with the MMC Community Services and
Public Safety, Cllr Tlake Khoarai and senior officials from their departments , conducted an official visit to Thabong A
Hostel yesterday as part of an ongoing verification and compliance operation.
The primary objectives of this visit were to verify the occupancy status of municipal rental units and to formally
notify residents of their obligation to pay all outstanding municipal rental fees and service charges.
The Municipality wishes to reiterate that the era of non-payment and unlawful occupation of municipal property has come
to an end....
All individuals occupying municipal units are required to settle their accounts in full. Claims of private ownership of
these units, unless proven through valid legal documentation, will not be recognised. These properties remain the lawful
assets of the Municipality.
During the visit, the Municipality also observed with concern the illegal extension of units and construction of rental
rooms on municipal land.
These actions are not only in violation of municipal by-laws but also compromise the health, safety, and integrity of
community infrastructure.
The Municipality will be initiating strict legal and administrative action against anyone who:
• Constructs unauthorized structures on municipal property;
• Collects rental income from illegally extended or occupied units;
• Tampers with or bypasses municipal service infrastructure.
Residents are reminded that access to municipal property and services comes with responsibility. All occupants are
expected to register through proper channels, pay for services rendered, and adhere to municipal regulations.
This operation marks the beginning of a broader enforcement campaign. Similar inspections and compliance activities will
be extended to other hostels in Thabong and to all hijacked or illegally occupied buildings across Welkom, Odendaalsrus,
Virginia, Hennenman, Allanridge, and Ventersburg.
The Municipality calls on all affected residents to cooperate fully with officials, regularise their occupancy, and
avoid actions that could result in eviction or prosecution.
For any queries or to make arrangements regarding your municipal account, please contact the Revenue Office or visit
your nearest Municipal offices.
