Today marked the initiation of an impactful endeavor as the Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Cllr. Thanduxolo Khalipha extended a warm welcome to 100 enthusiastic participants hailing from various towns within the Matjhabeng.
These individuals embarked on their inaugural day of service as integral members of The Municipal Cleaning and Greening project, funded by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment.
This program stands as a testament to our collective commitment to combatting environmental degradation and eradicating the scourge of litter and illegal dumping within our communities.
With a steadfast dedication to our environment's well-being, these participants will be diligently working across designated areas within Matjhabeng, with a primary focus on enhancing and maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetics of our surroundings.
Amidst ongoing challenges, we stand united with you, committed to transparency and resolution. The recent strike has tested our resolve, and we extend heartfelt appreciation to those who have returned to work, showcasing unwavering dedication to our community.
The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Minister Thembi Nkadimeng, has actively collaborated with Matjhabeng Local Municipality and SAMWU to navigate the complexities of the situation.
Progress is underway as the municipality and SAMWU work to resolve pending issues at the Local Labour Forum....
Last Wednesday, March 20, 2024, the Council convened to deliberate on measures to resolve disputes with SAMWU and ensure all employees return to work. Acouncil statement will be issued to update residents on this matter.
Our commitment to resolving these matters is resolute, and we are confident that consensus will soon be achieved.
We sincerely apologise for the prolonged strike, which has impacted service delivery and inconvenienced Matjhabeng residents.
To address service delivery concerns, the municipality has developed a contingency plan. This week, the cleaning of illegal dumping in some areas of Matjhabeng was executed.
From next week, removal of refuse, waste, grass cutting, and other essential services will be prioritised.
Additionally, the Executive Mayor will be launching Letsema, a comprehensive cleaning campaign targeting various areas of Matjhabeng.
Furthermore, the municipality has procured a pothole truck worth R7 million, soon to be unveiled, to enhance road maintenance efforts.
We must also address despicable acts of vandalism targeting crucial municipal infrastructure, particularly electricity and water systems.
Recently, we have witnessed acts of vandalism by our employees on our infrastructure, sabotaging and inciting the community against the municipality. Culprits have been identified, and the law will take its course.
We condemn these acts of vandalism and urge residents to report any suspicious behaviour or instances of vandalism to the authorities immediately.
We wish to express our deepest gratitude to all residents for their patience during this challenging time. Your support and dedication to building a better Matjhabeng do not go unnoticed.
In the spirit of unity and progress, let us join hands to overcome these challenges and forge a brighter future for Matjhabeng.
