The Matjhabeng Local Municipality wishes to inform residents that earlier this morning, two individuals were
apprehended by our Water Section team while attempting to steal municipal water valves at the Spar Circle in
Virginia.
Thanks to the vigilance and swift response of our team, the attempted theft was prevented before any damage could
occur.
The suspects were immediately handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation and
legal action....
Theft and vandalism of municipal infrastructure have severe consequences for the community, including:
• Disruption of water supply to homes, businesses, schools, clinics, and other essential services.
• Costly repairs and replacements, diverting funds from other critical service delivery projects.
• Increased water losses, which put additional strain on our aging infrastructure.
• Public health risks, especially where reliable water access is essential for hygiene and sanitation.
The Municipality strongly condemns all criminal acts that jeopardise service delivery and community wellbeing.
We urge all residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity around municipal infrastructure to SAPS
or the municipal call centre.
Let us stand together to protect our shared resources and uphold consistent and reliable service delivery for all.
