EXECUTIVE MAYOR KHALIPHA ENGAGES WARD 30 COMMUNITY IN THABONG ON SERVICE DELIVERY AND PAYMENT CULTURE.
As part of his ongoing Mayoral Imbizo programme, the Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Cllr. Thanduxolo
Khalipha, visited the community of Ward 30 in Thabong to lead discussions on key service delivery priorities and
encourage greater community cooperation in municipal development efforts.
The engagement reflected in the launch of the Municipality’s intensified Service Delivery Campaign, which began with
visible and hands-on interventions in the ward....
These included:
• Clearing of illegal dumping sites
• Unblocking of sewer lines
• Patching of potholes
• Repairing of high mast lighting
• Addressing other critical service delivery concerns
Executive Mayor Khalipha emphasised that the campaign will be rolled out across all wards, with Ward 30 serving as the
pilot site to demonstrate municipalitiy’s commitment to delivering services that restore dignity to communities.
In his address, the Executive Mayor made a firm call for residents to take responsibility for the sustainability of
municipal services by paying for the services they receive.
He reminded the community that even indigent households are encouraged to contribute a minimum of R250 per month, in
order to help the Municipality recover costs and continue delivering essential services such as water, sanitation,
electricity, and waste removal.
“Service delivery is a shared responsibility. As the Municipality, we are committed to doing our part , but we also need
residents to play theirs by paying for services, protecting infrastructure, and using resources responsibly,” said Mayor
Khalipha.
The Executive Mayor expressed serious concern over the growing problem of illegal dumping in open spaces and on street
corners. He urged residents to make use of the scheduled municipal refuse collection services and to refrain from
illegal disposal of waste, which undermines health, safety, and the aesthetic of local communities.
He also warned that the Municipality will soon be implementing strict enforcement measures, including fines and
penalties for individuals and businesses found to be dumping waste unlawfully.
The Mayoral Imbizo offered a platform for residents to raise their concerns and suggestions directly with the Mayor and
municipal officials, promoting a culture of open dialogue and shared accountability.
