The groundbreaking ceremony, led by Acting Executive Mayor, Cllr. Hlobohang Mokhomo, marked the beginning of a project that is set to transform the area....

Ward Councillor, Cllr. Khoarai Tlake, warmly welcomed Cllr. Mokhomo and the gathered community, expressing excitement for the positive impact the centre would bring to Hani Park and the surrounding areas.

In his address, Cllr. Mokhomo stressed the vital role of the community in safeguarding the project and ensuring its success. "This is your project, and you must take ownership of it from day one," he said. "We need your vigilance to protect it from any disruptions, and your commitment to make the most of this valuable asset once it's completed."

He also highlighted the economic benefits the project would bring, emphasising that local businesses would be prioritised for subcontracting opportunities, ensuring the project stimulates the local economy.

Valued at over R34 million, the Multipurpose Community Centre will provide residents with a range of services and amenities.

The facility, once completed, will feature a 2,000m² hall, a stage with change rooms, conference facilities, a tuck shop and kitchen, as well as public restrooms.

The construction phase is set to begin on September 2, 2024, and will take approximately 14 months to complete.

As part of Matjhabeng Municipality’s ongoing commitment to community development, local labour will be prioritized during the construction, with job opportunities created for residents. Additionally, local small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) will be engaged in various subcontracting roles, ensuring that the project also supports the growth of local businesses.

Cllr. Mokhomo reaffirmed the municipality’s dedication to improving community infrastructure while promoting economic development.

"This project is about more than just a building; it’s about empowering the community and creating a legacy of growth and opportunity."
