MATJHABENG LOCAL MUNICIPALITY
NOTICE OF WATER INTERRUPTION
SATURDAY, 07 SEPTEMBER 2024
WELKOM
NOTICE TO RESIDENTS OF MATJHABENG
Dear Residents, Please be advised that parts of Welkom and the far eastern areas of Thabong have been experiencing low water supply and pressure for the past week or two. This is largely due to increased water demand as temperatures rise with the onset of Spring, and we expect further demand increases as we approach the summer months.
During the colder winter months, water demand was significantly lower, which is why these issues did not occur....
The Matjhabeng Local Municipality (MLM) is actively working with the Vaal Central Water technical teams to identify other potential causes of the low supply. These investigations will help guide efforts to implement permanent solutions, including the replacement of ageing pipes, control valves, and other associated infrastructure.
In the meantime, water tankers are available to support the affected areas. Residents are encouraged to contact their Ward Councillors should they experience any supply issues.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and patience.

The Bronville Pump Station is one of many pump stations in Matjhabeng that had been severely impacted by vandalism, leading to significant spillages in the surrounding area.
These acts of vandalism not only disrupted essential services but also posed environmental and health risks to the community.
Through a Ministerial Intervention, the Bronville Pump Station has undergone extensive refurbishment, and it is now fully operational.
This marks a crucial step in improving the quality of service delivery in the area. In addition to this, a second pump station in Bronville is currently under construction, with the contractor on-site making notable progress towards completion.
The Matjhabeng Local Municipality urges the residents of Bronville to take an active role in safeguarding these vital pieces of infrastructure. Community partnership is key to preventing future damage, ensuring that services remain uninterrupted, and maintaining a cleaner, safer environment for everyone.
The Municipality remains committed to working hand-in-hand with residents to protect and preserve these essential public assets.
